The Republic of Serbia is convinced that UNESCO has a unique, vital and irreplaceable role to play at the interactional level through its holistic and multidisciplinary mandate.
Through its candidacy for membership in the Executive Board for the 2023-2027 mandate, the Republic of Serbia wishes to further emphasize its long-term commitment to multilateralism and the principles on which UNESCO is based upon. Serbia believes that, in this way, it will be able to support the noble mission and vision of the Organization in view of building peace through the promotion of international cooperation in the fields of culture, education, science, information and communication.
Due to the numerous and diverse activities carried out in the past period, the Republic of Serbia has made a visible contribution to the realization of UNESCO’s goals. In particular, as a member of the UNESCO Executive Board, and its president (2021-2023), Serbia supported in a committed and constructive manner the strengthening of dialogue and the spirit of consensus within UNESCO, strongly convinced that only a path of cooperation and mutual understanding can ensure unimpeded implementation of the UNESCO mandate and promote areas of common interest.
In its new mandate on the Executive Board, from 2023, the Republic of Serbia would continue to be a strong advocate for further strengthening the efficiency of UNESCO and promoting its capacity to achieve best possible results on the ground. As before. Serbia will remain committed to the global priorities of UNESCO (Africa and gender equality), the priority groups such as youth and small island developing states, and the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals.
If re-elected, the Republic of Serbia will, while adhering to the core UNESCO mandate, focus special attention to the areas of education for global citizenship and sustainable development, protection of tangible and intangible cultural heritage, diversity of cultural expressions and development of creative industries, freedom of expression and journalist safety, media and information literacy, the fight against all forms of discrimination, and open science and artificial intelligence.
